Iran–U.S. Nuclear Talks in Geneva Show ‘Good Progress’ Amid Regional Tensions
Indirect nuclear talks between Iran and the United States in Geneva have made 'good progress,' with both parties agreeing on a set of guiding principles for a possible deal. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said there was a clear way forward, although much work is left to be done on the issues of uranium enrichment and the Iranian missile program. Although U.S. Vice President JD Vance has reaffirmed a preference for a diplomatic solution, he also stated that "red lines" are still in place and that military action is still a possibility. These talks are taking place under heavy regional pressure, with U.S. aircraft carriers deployed in the region and Iranian military exercises in the Strait of Hormuz, following a brief but destructive conflict between Israel and the U.S. last June.
